President Chen Presides over the Swearing-in Ceremony of New Senior Government Officials

Taipei, June 8 (CNA) President Chen Shui-bian presided over a swearing-in ceremony for a group of new senior government officials at the Presidential Office Tuesday.

The officials, led by Examination Yuan Vice President Wu Rong-ming, took their oath of office in front of a national flag and a photo of the late national founding father Dr. Sun Yat-sen, pledging to dedicate themselves to serving the country and the people without any infraction of the law or dereliction of duty.

At the end of the swearing-in ceremony, Chen shook hands with each official and offered his congratulations and encouragement. They were the second batch of senior government officials to be sworn in since Chen began his second four-year term on May 20.

In addition to Wu Rong-ming, other officials sworn in at the ceremony included Vice Defense Ministers Tsai Ming-hsien and Huo Shou-yeh, Army Commander-in-Chief Chu Kai-sheng, Air Force Commander-in-Chief Liu Kuei-li, Vice Interior Minister Lee Chin-yung, Vice Foreign Affairs Minister Michael Ying-mao Kau, Vice Finance Minister Lee Jui-chang, Vice Economics Minister Chen Ruei-lung, Vice Justice Minister Hsieh Wen-ting, Vice Labor Affairs Council Chairman Lai Ching-lin, and Wu Chin-fa, vice chairman of the Council for Cultural affairs.

Several senior officials witnessed the swearing-in ceremony, including Examination Yuan President Yao Chia-wen, Vice Premier Yeh Chu-lan, Presidential Office Secretary-General Su Tzeng-chang, Defense Minister Lee Jeyh and National Security Council Secretary-General Chiou I-jen.
