Taipei, June 28 (CNA) Vice President Annette Lu Monday invited Harish Kumar, vice president of Junior Chamber International (JCI) , to come to Taiwan to attend the second Democratic Pacific Assembly in Taiwan in August.
Lu extended the invitation to Kumar and other JCI officials to attend the assembly of the Democratic Pacific Union, which was founded by Lu, in the hope that it will promote understanding between JCI members in the Asia and Pacific region.
Kumar, accompanied by Francis Lee, president of the Taiwan Junior Chamber, was visiting Lu at the Presidential Office.
Lu expressed hope that Kumar will help promote cooperation and exchanges between Taiwan and India.
For his part, Kumar said he would like to promote regional cooperation and exchanges, especially since the Taiwan Junior Chamber is soliciting to host the Asia-Pacific Conference in 2007, an event sponsored by the JCI.
Noting that there will be more than 5,000 members participating in the Asia-Pacific Conference, he said that if the Taiwan Junior Chamber can host the event, it will promote international understanding and cooperation and will boost Taiwan's diplomatic and trade development.
Lu noted that the Taiwan Junior Chamber nurtures a lot of what she described as "elite" members of society, and that President Chen Shui-bian was once a member. She added that the government will always support Taiwan Junior Chamber activities, especially in its efforts to obtain hosting rights for the Asia-Pacific Conference in 2007.
