Taipei, June 17 (CNA) Vice President Annette Lu said Tuesday it is time for the nation to review its constitutional system, particularly the role of the vice president.
Lu made the appeal at a news conference where she introduced a new version of her vice presidential column on the Presidential Office's Website.
Noting that the nation's constitution does not clearly define the role of vice president, Lu said this ambiguity could become a pitfall or obstacle to government operations if the president and vice president belong to different parties. "With the election less than a year away, it's time for us to face this issue squarely, " Lu said, adding that local voters should seriously consider whether they are prepared to accept a power-greedy, high-profile, headstrong vice president.
A new book by Lu on her three years in the vice presidency is scheduled to hit bookstores Thursday. In the preface of the book, Lu analyzes in detail her views on the role of the vice president.
