President Chen Receives South Korean Scholar Kim Young-oak
2005-03-25

Taipei, March 25 (CNA) Receiving South Korean scholar Kim Young-oak, founder of the Institute of History of Korean Thoughts, Chen said Taiwan doesn't have ethnic problems, what it has is the problem that some people don't consider this island as their homeland.

Chen said Taiwan is a diversified society with people of different origins. Except for the aborigines, Taiwanese immigrated to the island from different places at different times.

No matter when they arrived in Taiwan, no matter whether they call it the Republic of China or Taiwan, Chen said, they had a common compassion for the island.

All the differences among them notwithstanding, Chen said democracy, peace and security is their common desire, which unites them closely together.

Chen said he believes that this will also be the desire for the Chinese people on the mainland.
