Vice president Annette Lu visited this morning the National Seismology Research Center and received briefings on Taiwan's efforts in minimizing earthquake disasters.
The vice president was first briefed by Director Tsai Keh-Chyuan of the research center, and then visited several laboratories asking about their results and accomplishments.
After the visit, the vice president took media questions, saying the visit to the research center helped her understand how to prevent and reduce possible danger during an earthquake. She confirmed the efforts made by the center in studying various types of buildings and constructions as well as spreading the knowledge of earthquake prevention.
While Taiwan was hit last night by an earthquake, measured 3.0 on the Richter scale, the vice president reminded people of the fact that the island sits on the seismic zone. It is, therefore, vital for everyone to be equipped with the knowledge to prevent and minimize danger whenever possible so lives can be saved.
