The Presidential Office's Clarification of a News Report on Anti-Bugging
2005-11-09

The Department of Public Affairs of the Presidential Office clarified that the Presidential Office has never authorized any private operators to conduct anti-bugging or anti-wiretapping. Neither did the Office accept such services offered by the company as reported by the paper.

The Department of Public Affairs stressed that the Presidential Office has never contracted any companies for wire-tapping detection within the Office, and has no knowledge about the company mentioned by the daily news. The Presidential Office will investigate the intent of the company's remarks as cited by the Apple Daily. The Presidential Office will also take necessary measures, if its reputation is compromised because of such inaccurate reports.

To ensure communications security, the Presidential Office authorizes each year government special units to take charge of the anti-bugging routine check. The Office has never authorized any party outside the government to carry out the task.
