Vice President Lu Calls on the Investigative Authorities to Keep Tight Lips on the KMRT Cases
2005-11-02

Vice President Annette Lu, speaking in the capacity as chairwoman of the Presidential Human Rights Advisory Committee, said that the continuous leakage of information, many of which are false, regarding the recent foreign labors revolt and a construction bid scandal, both of which are associated with the Kaohsiung Mass Rapid Transit system (KMRT), has misled the people of Taiwan and complicated the investigation. It has also violated article 245 of Taiwan's criminal procedure law, which stipulates that cases under investigation should not be disclosed.

In light of this, the vice president urged investigative authorities to abide by the law and not to leak information concerning cases under investigation to media so as to protect the rights of related personnel and the integrity of Taiwan's rule of law.
