Presidential Office Holds Press Conference on the Alleged Wrongdoing of Former Officials

President Chen Shui-bian has asked the Personnel Department of the Presidential Office to turn over all the documents in relation o the furlough and overseas trips of former Presidential Deputy Secretary- General Chen Che-nan to the Kaohsiung District Prosecutors Office.

The Presidential Office is not the authority in charge of foreign labors affairs, and Mr. Chen did not take the trips abroad for this purpose and has therefore never filed any report regarding foreign labors to the president.

President Chen has reiterated his stance that any wrongdoings in the Kaohsiung Rapid Transit scandal should be brought into the open, and has voiced his willingness to step down and forfeit the presidential privileges, if he was found to be involved in the scandal. He urged that any evidence found by anyone in relation to the scandal be turned over to the investigative authorities to resolve the case.
