President Chen Shui-bian met with the winners of the 20th Golden Camel Awards, appreciating their years-long unselfish devotion to voluntary services.
The Golden Camel Award is dedicated to the country's voluntary workers. This year's award ceremony was hosted by the National Association of Voluntary Service and the Taipei Voluntary Service Association.
"You are the best of the best," the president congratulated and praised the award winners as the "models for the other fellow countrymen to look up to."
What the president always has in mind is to make Taiwan as a country of the voluntary, knowledge and humanity. Since his first term of presidency, May 20, his inaugural day, has become the day of voluntary work. "I am always a delighted voluntary worker on May 20," the president said in a tone of joy. While May 20 this year will mark his sixth time serving as a voluntary worker, the president welcomed the award winners' comments and advice.
"Factors of an amiable society dwell in our heart; we can make our country a place of warmth and purity," the president concluded.
