President Chen Shui-bian met with the medalists of the "2005 International Junior Science Olympics" and their advisors on February 21, congratulating them on their outstanding achievements in the academic competition.
The "2005 International Junior Science Olympics" was held late last year in Indonesia, in which the six participants from Taiwan totally earned six medals: five gold medals, ranked first among all the participating countries; one silver medal; and two special awards for experiments. The president extended his deepest appreciation to these students, their parents, and their advisors, for rendering visible to the world the success of Taiwan's education.
"For the past two years," the president said and applauded that "Taiwan has not been absent from the International Junior Science Olympics, and our brilliant performances have allowed Taiwan to play a leading role among the participating countries." In order to promote more educational and academic exchanges, the National Taiwan Normal University will host next year's event whose organization work has been in work, the president declared. "In our homeland and with domestic support," the president said, "our performances in 2007 will surely be more remarkable."
Science advances daily, so does civilization. Quoting a Chinese saying that "Learning has no end; learners either progress or regress," the president encouraged the medalists and all students of the nation to be more active and focused and to engage themselves more in the fields they are interested in. "You are the dreamers and, at the same time, the dream-fulfillers," the president said while encouraging them. "The show is on, and the stage is yours."
