In regard to the negative reports released by some news agencies, the Department of Public Affairs under the Office of the President has made the following statements:
1.) At the ceremony for the "59th Anniversary of the 228 Incident," Vice President Annette Lu had a short conversation with Taipei Mayor Ma Ying-jeou out of courtesy and told the latter that the country should move forward to reconciliation in spite of political differences, for the 228 Incident is a trauma in Taiwan's history.
2.) The vice president also pointed out that, in so far as Mayor Ma represented the Kuomintang to attend the ceremony, any conflicts between the political parties should be resolved immediately in order to avoid further political fermentations.
To the media's negative reports the Department of Public Affairs under the Office of the President showed its regret.
