President Chen Shui-bian and Vice President Annette Lu congratulated Ang Lee with joy on his being awarded the Oscar for Best Achievement in Directing in the 78th Annual Academy Awards, recognizing his highest achievement and contribution to world civilization.
Director Ang Lee's film "Brokeback Mountain" also won the Oscars for Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures and for Best Adapted Screen Play.
"Director Ang Lee's long-time efforts in filming have won Taiwan an outstanding place in the world movie industry," the president said in his notes of congratulation to Director Ang Lee.
The President also praised Director Ang Lee's persistence in arts and filmmaking.
At the same time, Vice President Annette Lu also extended her congratulations and appreciation to Director Ang Lee. "You are the light of Taiwan," the vice president honored the Director with admiration.
