Vice President Lu Meets with Female Entrepreneurs
2006-03-02

Vice President Annette Lu met with Taiwan female entrepreneurs on March 2 at the Office of the President, sharing with their managerial experiences and urging them to gather women's power to cope with existing social problems.

The vice president first proposed a training program called "Excellent Housekeeper," aiming to train middle-aged and unemployed women to engage in professional housekeeping professions. Seeing this program as an affirmative action, the vice president invited the already successful female entrepreneurs to support this idea.

"For Taiwan, there is still much room for progress," the vice president said, "and so is for women." Therefore, she also proposed to launch a "Pacific Women Development Center" to promote women's self-empowerment.

Taiwan's national competitiveness is currently ranked fifth in the world. Among the leading countries in the list, the vice president pointed out to the female entrepreneurs that, with some exceptions like the USA, the UK and France, most of the countries are rather small in size. " 'Women's power' is what truly matters," the vice president analyzed. "Women's power does not imply to oppose men, but to encourage harmonious cooperation and mutual respect between the two sexes."

The gifted vice president once wrote a novel entitled "Three Women," which is to be filmed in the near future. Through the novel, the president hoped that men would one day truly understand and develop a sense of respect to women. "Women can create a 'herstory' of their own," said the vice president.
