Vice President Annette Lu was presented with the "Candlelight Award" by the International Federation of Business and Professional Women on the evening of March 11.
According to the Department of Public Affairs under the Office of the President, the federation's president, Dr. Chonchanok Viravan, presented the "Candlelight Award" to Vice President Lu to honor her unselfish devotion to democracy and care for Taiwan's social affairs, particularly women's issues.
The International Federation of Business and Professional Women was founded in Geneva, Switzerland in 1930. While engaging in women's movement in early 1970, Vice President Lu introduced the organization to Taiwan and helped set up its first branch office in Taipei in 1973.
The "Candlelight Award" is designed to honor women who have made remarkable contributions to the world, the country, and the people. Following Mrs. Cecilia Y. Koo and Dr. Doris Brougham, founder of the Studio Classroom, Vice President Lu is the third person in Taiwan who has won the award.
