President Chen Welcomes Newly Appointed Nicaraguan Ambassador to R.O.C. (Taiwan) Juan Marcos Garcia Borgen.
The newly appointed Nicaraguan Ambassador to the Republic of China (Taiwan) Juan Marcos Garcia Borgen presented his Letter of Credence to President Chen Shui-bian on March 15 at the Office of the President, wishing long-lasting friendship between Taiwan and the Republic of Nicaragua.

To welcome Ambassador Garcia, the president cited Nicaraguan President Enrique Bolaños Geger's visits to Taiwan in 2002, 2003, 2004, and reassured the ambassador the amiable relationships between Taiwan and Nicaragua.

During the meeting, the president extended his deepest gratitude to the Republic of Nicaragua for voicing support to Taiwan's bids to participate in the United Nations and the World Health Assembly.

As Taiwan's investments in Nicaragua have exceeded US$40 million, the president and the ambassador both looked forward to the signing a bilateral free trade agreement.

Lastly, the president praised Ambassador Garcia as a young and outstanding diplomat, showing his confidence in the ambassador that the latter would play a successful role in the new position.

Taiwan Foreign Minister James Huang and Secretary-General to the President Mark Chen also attended the ceremony.
