Vice President Annette Lu met with religious leaders and scholars on March 16, announcing the commencement of the "Tender Taiwan, Tender Heart" campaign and promoting reconstruction work for all social strata.
The vice president also proposed to call together those who share the same concerns to a meeting in the coming April and pool collective efforts in order to promote social and mental reconstruction.
Professionals and experts from different walks of life were invited to the meeting, including religious leaders, university professors, and social movement campaigners.
The vice president presented her discourse in biosocial aspects, specifying five determinants that are crucial to social stability: the natural, social, cultural, political, and the economic. "Their problems are like landfalls," the vice president said, adding that if these fields are not carefully dealt with, the social edifice will be undermined.
"Together with President Chen and Premier Su," the vice president said toward the end of the meeting, "I wish to remodel our society from the bottom, that is, to focus more on the reconstruction of the civil society."
