Statement Made by Office of the President on Alleged Bribery
2006-03-30

To respond to the media reports saying that two staff members of the Office of the President were feasted by businesses, David Lee, director-general of the Department of Public Affairs under the Office of the President, said that the Office of the President regretted, and had immediately handled this matter and posted the two away from their original office.

In addition, Director-General Lee said that the Office of the President itself had embarked on an investigation, and did refer the case to the Taipei District Prosecutors' Office on March 8.

Lee added that the Office of the President would never cover up the case and would examine the appropriateness of the administrative punishments according to the result of the investigation reached by the prosecutors' office.

In a high-level meeting on March 2, Mark Chen, secretary-general of the Office of the President, also commanded that the officials of the Office of the President adhere to the principle of "highest honesty and integrity."
