Taipei, May 9 (CNA) President Chen Shui-bian sent his regards to mothers of the country Friday, two days before Mother's Day.
In an electronic card posted on the Web site of the Presidential Office, the president and his wife, Wu Shu-jen, extended their best wishes to all mothers in the country.
Vice President Annette Lu also sent her greetings on the Web site.
An aide to the president quoted Chen as saying that this year's Mother's Day is all the more significant amid the outbreaks of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) as many of the hospital workers who have risked their lives to care for SARS patients are mothers themselves.
