Vice President Lu Meets with US Experts on Cross-strait Relations.

Vice President Annette Lu met with a US delegation of experts on cross-strait affairs at the Office of the President on April 6.

The delegation was led by Natale H. Bellocchi, former board chairman of the American Institute in Taiwan, and was accompanied by Taiwan's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Michael Ying-mao Kao.

The vice president first shared with the guests her opinions on the recent talks between President Chen Shui-bian and Kuomintang (KMT) Chairman Ma Ying-jeou, saying that even after the "United Nations Resolution 2758" was made 36 years ago, the new generation of the KMT leaders are still desperate for the "One-China" claim. "The times of absurdity must come to an end, otherwise the KMT should be frank with its silent assertion of 'Two Chinas', that is, on the one hand there is the People's Republic of China on the mainland, and on the other the Republic of China on Taiwan," said the vice president.

"Taiwan's past entanglement with China was a tragedy," said the vice president. "Taiwan's future should be interpreted from a world view."
