Vice President Lu Proposes New Administrative Districts
2006-04-11

Vice President Lu Proposes New Administrative Districts.
Vice President Annette Lu suggested on April 11 that the government redraw the country's administrative districts and establish two special districts for mountain and offshore areas.

Since nearly 43 percent of the country is mountainous and covers 33 indigenous townships in different counties, the vice president proposed creating a specific mountain district under the supervision of the central government in order to provide these areas with leadership and accountability in times of emergencies.

People residing in offshore areas have also positively voiced their support for the vice president's proposal and she has in turn advocated for establishing an offshore district under the central government's directives as well.

The vice president made the above suggestions while attending an annual meeting for the Taipei County's real estate association.
