On April 14, Marshall Islands President Kessai H. Note thanked President Chen Shui-bian for accompanying him to southern Taiwan and for everything the country has done to him and his wife during their stay.
President Note especially thanked Taiwan for having attended to his wife's travel discomfort and helping her recover.
Speaking to President Chen, President Note reflected on Taiwan's advanced health care services, the country's innovative fishing industry and its technological achievements in developing alternative energy sources. President Note said that the Marshall Islands would very much like to learn from Taiwan's success.
In response, President Chen told his guest that Taiwan looks forward to continuing its cooperative relationship with the Marshall Islands to further benefit the people of both countries.
This was the two presidents' second meeting after President Note and Mrs. Note arrived in Taiwan on April 10. Marshall Islands' Foreign Minister Gerald Zackios, Senator Alik Alik, Banking Commissioner Ann Marie Muller, and Presidential Assistant Christopher deBrum were also present at the meeting. This also marked President Note's fourth visit to Taiwan.
