President Chen's Remarks on the 2006 Education Forum
2006-05-04

The 2006 Education Forum will be held at the Grand Hotel, Taipei on May 4-5. Though not being able to attend the occasion due to his overseas visit, President Chen Shui-bian wrote to wish the conference a great success.

The theme for this year's forum is "Gaming in Education," which will center on the correlation between information technology and education quality.

In response to the theme of the forum, the president says in his congratulation letter to the forum that, after having improved Taiwan school children's access to computer and internet, the government will continue to develop e-learning software in order to further adapt the children to the global trend of information technology.

"Taiwan is a small island," the president writes, "and the excellence of our human resource has allowed us to create an internationally competitive economy."

For the future, the president wishes to provide the students in Taiwan with education that is more liberal and pluralistic and able to help them develop their talents and accomplish self-fulfillment.
