President Chen Shui-bian met with the 10 winners of the 13th Mother Love Award on May 16 at the Office of the President, praising them for the love devoted to their mentally/physically disabled children.
The annual Mother Love Award is dedicated to the mothers who take care of their mentally/physically challenged children with unlimited time, patience, sweat, and love. This year's award, themed "Courage," was held by the Taiwan Disability-Free Association, a local non-governmental organization that assists the families with disadvantaged children.
During the meeting, the president carefully noted these mothers' comments in order to incorporate them into governmental policies.
"The responsibility of taking care of mentally/physically disadvantaged children should not be borne solely by a mother but should be communally shared by society as a whole," concluded the president.
