President Chen Takes up Voluntary Services.
Serving as a voluntary worker on May 20, the sixth time during his presidency, President Chen Shui-bian helped clean a beach at Taipei County, wishing the spirit of "volunteer Taiwan" to win international recognition and applause.

After cleaning the beach, the president commented on the recent unseemly conduct of the first family, saying that the members of his family should enjoy no privileges and be open to judicial investigations.

Meanwhile, on behalf of the first family, he humbly and responsibly apologized to the people of Taiwan and the forefathers of his Democratic Progressive Party.

May 20, the president's inauguration day, also marks the country's Volunteer Day, on which the president provides voluntary services with voluntary workers around the island. On this year's Volunteer Day, the president emphasized that for the next two years he will continue to devote himself as a voluntary worker to the country and its people, and, most importantly, welcomes the strictest examination from the general public and the press.
