President Chen Meets with Dominican Newspaper Editor Miguel Franjul

On May 25, at the Office of the President, President Chen Shui-bian met with Miguel Franjul, editor of the Dominican newspaper Listín Diario. In the meeting, the president told his guest that he agreed with Dominican President Leonel Fernandez's proposal to form a strategic triangle with Taiwan and the US east coast through Taiwan's increased investment in the high-tech industry of the Dominican Republic.

President Chen, therefore, told his guest that he hoped Taiwan and the Dominican Republic could sign a free trade agreement as soon as possible in order to expedite the formation of the strategic alliance.

In the meeting, the president extended his gratitude to President Fernandez for the reiteration of firm support for Taiwan. He also told his guest that he looked forward to meeting with President Fernandez, who has accepted Taiwan's invitation to visit Taiwan in June later this year.

Miguel Franjul's visit to the Office of the President was accompanied by Cheng Wen-tsan, chief of Taiwan's Government Information Office, and Secretary-General to the President Mark Chen was also present at the meeting.
