Vice President Lu Meets with People Engaged in Crime Victim Protection.
Vice President Annette Lu met with a group of people engaged in crime victim protection work on May 30 at the Office of the President. The vice president praised these people, including policewomen, medical-nursing personnel and volunteers, for their long-term support to Taiwan's crime victims and for their efforts in promoting societal health.

Besides societal health, the vice president said that a sound judicial system and people's conception of law are also crucial to a democratic society.

Worried about Taiwan's legal practice, she said that laws have not yet been well observed in Taiwan. Therefore, all the people are the victims when democracy and the rule of law are not fully exercised and their effects are not manifested, the vice president said. She urged that all the citizens work together to make Taiwan a society that is founded upon the principle of human rights and is ruled by law.
