2006-06-01

This Sunday, June 4, the Presidential Building will be open to the general public from 8 am to 4 pm, and the Taipei Guest House will be open from 9 am to 4 pm as well.

According to the Department of Public Affairs (DPA) under the Office of the President, on the opening day the Office of the President will also provide visitors with a series of displays, including historical photos of the Presidential Building, the ROC (Taiwan) military and civil medals, gifts and tokens presented to the president at his inauguration, Taiwan local cultural attractions, historical documents of the Office of the Taiwan Governor-General, and art crafts of the previous presidents.

The DPA said that the Office of the President will also hold a photography contest entitled "Beauty of the Presidential Office," which, for the first time, will allow visitors to carry their cameras when touring the building respectively on June 4 and on the next opening day, August 6. (For detailed information, please visit http://www.president.gov.tw/)

Before entry, all visitors, except Mainland Chinese citizens, who are excluded from this activity, are required to identify themselves with their citizen IDs or passports, and to line up on the South and North Squares in front of the Presidential Building.

On the same day, the Taipei Guest House, after 4-year-long maintenance and refurbishment, will also unveil itself to the public with its touch of Japanese style. It should be noted that in order to avoid unnecessary damage, photographing is not allowed in some of the buildings within the Taipei Guest House.

As the Presidential Building and the Taipei Guest House are situated near each other, the DPA welcomed local citizens and foreign visitors to savor the charms of the two historic sites on June 4.
