The Taiwan-USA Industry and Technology Summit Forum opened on June 5 in Taipei. Vice President Annette Lu was invited to give an address at the forum's opening ceremony.
In her remarks, the vice president focused on the current political situation in Taiwan, admitting that the government is facing a crisis of corruption. She said that it's too high a price to pay if Taiwan's foundation for democracy, human rights and industries is undermined by selfishness of any political party or individual.
She emphasized that though being challenged by some imperfection of democracy, Taiwan cannot give up. Therefore, she called on all citizens to stand united to go through all the adversities the country is facing.
