President Chen Attends a Ceremony to Observe Labor Day and to Honor Distinguished Workers
2003-04-30

Taipei, April 30 (CNA) President Chen Shui-bian said Wednesday that his administration had achieved much to help the nation's laborers.

Presiding over a ceremony to observe Labor Day and to honor the country's distinguished workers, Chen said his administration has pushed through the legislature four bills crafted to protect the country's employees and revise two others in spite of the fact that Legislative Yuan was controlled by opposition parties.

Chen said two other bills which will request two special budgets of NT$50 billion and NT$20 billion (US$1.43 billion and US$574.71 million) are pending in the legislature.

Once approved by the legislature, Chen said, the two bills would create 115,000 new jobs through the government's increasing expenditure in public projects.
