First Lady Wu Shu-jen Is Elected as One of the Asian Heroes for 2003 by "Time" Magazine

Taipei, April 23 (CNA) Republic of China first lady Wu Shu-jen on Wednesday gave the credit of her being elected as one of the Asian Heroes for 2003 by "Time" magazine to the efforts of all the people of Taiwan.

The American magazine listed Wu as one of the 29 Asian Heroes for 2003 in its latest edition, and has a full-page introduction of the first lady. People on "Time's" list are chosen for their "spirit of humanity."

Wu said she felt honored, but stressed that it is more a reflection of "Taiwan's democratic miracle, " which she attributed to the joint efforts of Taiwan's 23 million people. "No one enjoys having a physical disability, but we must accept reality, " Wu said, adding that she does not feel sorry for herself; instead, she considers herself a fighter.

Wu said she admires legendary Chinese figures that rise up to save the day, adding that now she has something of these super powers to help others by soliciting donations for worthy causes in her capacity as a well-known person.
