Vice President Lu Appeals to All Party Leaders to Convene
2006-06-25

Vice President Annette Lu on June 25 called on opposition leaders to meet with her in order to tackle Taiwan's current problems including corruption.

The vice president made the offer while speaking at a forum on Taiwan's industrial development held in Nantou County.

She emphasized the utmost respect for the country's legal system when mentioning the ongoing presidential recall motion and the corruption suit filed against the president's son-in-law. "I am convinced that all men are equal before the law, and that those controversies in which we are entangled will be appropriately dealt with by our developed and independent judicial system," she said.

She added that the current political contention between political parties would only harm the 23 million people of Taiwan. Therefore, she sincerely wished all the legislators to focus more on the bills closely related to the life of the people, including that of the flooding prevention budget.

Before she concluded her speech, she again extended her invitation to all the party leaders to convene in order to resolve the current problems.
