Vice President Lu Talks about Volunteer Taiwan with Junior Chamber International, Taiwan (JCIT).
When attending the opening of the 2006 north regional convention of the Junior Chamber International, Taiwan (JCIT) on July 9, Vice President Annette Lu was proud to tell the world that Taiwan is a "volunteer society proper."

She shared with JCIT members that the number of Taiwan's volunteers has remarkably increased by 123% from 35,000 in 1996 to 79,000 in 2006, and the number of volunteers from enterprises has also grown from 12,000 in 1996 to 22,000 in 2006.

Also, she added, the number of non-profit organizations (NPOs) this year is twice as many as it was 10 years ago, amounting to 26,000. Therefore, she was proud to tell the world that Taiwan is a "volunteer society proper."

In this ceremony, the vice president also thanked the JCIT for co-promoting the "Blue Sky, Green Land, Perfect Taiwan" campaign, an idea initiated by the vice president herself that advocates social and political harmony. "Politics concerns everyone, and politicians must serve the people," she said in conclusion, adding that regardless of differences among the political parties, people's interests should be the ultimate concern for all politicians.
