President Chen meets with Dominican Republic Chamber of Deputies President Alfredo Pacheco.
On July 10 at the Office of the President, President Chen Shui-bian met with Dominican Republic Chamber of Deputies President Alfredo Pacheco, who presented to him a copy of resolution in support of Taiwan passed on July 4 in the Dominican Republic Chamber of Deputies.

The resolution states that the Dominican Republic Chamber of Deputies praises President Chen for being the national leader of Taiwan who has defied hardship and adversity and has endeavored to improve people's wellbeing, to promote economic thriving, and to strengthen foreign relations. It also wishes Taiwan long-lasting development and prosperity.

President Chen thanked Pacheco for his chamber's long-time friendship toward Taiwan, citing its resolutions passed in 2003 and 2004 in support of, respectively, Taiwan's bid to participate as an observer in the World Health Assembly and Taiwan's exercise of its first referendum.

The president also told Pacheco that the Taiwan-Dominican Republic free trade agreement (FTA), to be signed soon, would be instrumental in forming triangular strategic relations between Taiwan, Dominican Republic, and the US east coast.

The other meeting attendees included Pacheco's colleagues Deputies Cristian Paredes Aporte, Ramon Rogelio Genao, Ramon Alejandro Montas, Bernardo Sanchez R., and Taiwan's Secretary-General to the President Mark Chen.
