President Chen Shui-bian would like to see the younger generation to strengthen their identity with this land through education in Taiwan's languages, social affairs, nature and ecology, as well as arts and humanities.
He expressed the wish at the opening of the "2006 Science and Technology Expo: Diversity of Taiwan" exhibition on July 28. The exhibition highlights the diversity of Taiwan's natural and social landscapes.
Professor Mehta, president of the International Council of Science and a special guest at this year's event, also attended the opening ceremony.
"No two leaves are ever exactly the same," the president paraphrased Leibniz. He also hoped Taiwan's kids and their adult friends and parents will better appreciate the cultural and ecological diversities of this land.
