President Chen Acknowledges Formosa Foundation and Its Goodwill Ambassadors
2006-08-02

In a meeting on August 2 at the Office of the President, President Chen Shui-bian met with nine young goodwill ambassadors of the Formosa Foundation, founded by former senior advisor to the president Wu Li-pei in 2001 in Los Angeles.

The president thanked these young goodwill ambassadors for, through lobbying in Washington DC, having reassured 159 congressmen of 40 states that Taiwan is determined to defend its sovereignty and the peace, stability, and security of the Taiwan Strait, to participate in the World Health Organization, and to sign a free trade agreement with the United States.

The Formosa Foundation, whose goal is to influence US' policy toward Taiwan and shift it from "one China" to "one China, one Taiwan," annually recruits enthusiastic and excellent youths as "little diplomatic sentries" that promote US-Taiwan relations through civic mobilizations.

The nine goodwill ambassadors' visit to the Office of the President was accompanied by the Formosa Foundation founder Wu Li-pei. Deputy Secretary-General to the President Liu Shyh-fang was also present in the meeting.
