Vice President Lu Attends Forum on Anti-Corruption

Vice President Lu Attends Forum on Anti-Corruption.
On Saturday, August 5, Vice President Annette Lu attended a forum on anti-corruption, the first of a series of six forums dedicated to promoting Taiwan's national security, social stability, and people's safety.

Besides corruption, the forums will deal with the value of Taiwan, the value of life, education reform, full-fledged party politics, and amiable cross-strait relations. The vice president said she will invite party leaders to attend the presentation of the conclusions of the six forums, hoping that the reconciliation between the ruling Green Camp and the opposition Blue Camp will truly take place after these forums.

When speaking of anti-corruption campaigns, the vice president cited international reports as ranking Taiwan's corruption 28th among 90 countries in 2000 and 30th among 133 ones in 2003, and worried that this year's ranking might keep falling due to the recent scandals in governments at all levels.

"Today's forum is only a beginning," she said in the conclusion of her address," and we shall be working together to have our legal system trusted by our citizens again and to make all those in government posts aware that integrity is the bottom line of our profession."
