President Chen Shui-bian was invited on August 12 to speak at the 32nd annual meeting of the Taiwan District of Kiwanis International (TDKI) and to present awards to the top-ten excellent agricultural experts of the year.
He first appreciated the TDKI's efforts in raising a NT$30 million fund for promoting children's welfare. He also applauded the TDKI for its success in holding the Kiwanis International's 2006 Asian Pacific annual meeting in March this year.
In the award presentation ceremony, he said the government should put more efforts in assisting in the transformation and upgrading of the agricultural industry, in the revitalization and resuscitation of rural villages, and in the promotion of the income and welfare of agricultural workers.
The president, while concluding his speech, wished this year's event a great success, and all the participants good health and great luck.
