Vice President Lu Attends "National Security, Social Stability, People's Safety" Forums III
2006-08-18

Vice President Annette Lu attended the third of a series of forums on Taiwan's "national security, social stability, and people's safety" on August 19. While this forum was dedicated to promoting for the people of Taiwan a perfect life that is sound and complete, she said Taiwan is facing a severe difficulty as a result of "Three Losses"-- loss of jobs, of ethics, and of order.

Summarized as a "social landslide," the three losses are attributed to various socio-economic-political factors by the vice president, naming them as the lag between the deconstruction of the old gender ethics and the construction of the new, the impacts of industrial outsourcing to China, of globalization, and of technologicalization on traditional industries, and the political ill-adaptation after the disintegration of the previous authoritarian rule and the transfer of power.

On the other hand, to the investigators who are persistently investigating the current scandals, she extended her encouragement and admiration, stressing that now it is a critical moment in which Taiwan's democracy and legal system should be examined by the standards of a modern state.

Prior to this forum, two others on "anit-corruption" and "living in peace and rejoicing in work" were already held on the past Saturdays. At the end of her speech, she wished this forum a great success.
