Vice President Lu Attends 2006 Taipei Healthy Cities Leaders Roundtable Opening.
Vice President Annette Lu attended the opening of the "2006 Taipei Healthy Cities Leaders Roundtable and International Healthy Cities Conference" on August 23 in Taipei. She reiterated the importance of "production, life, ecology, value of being, revering Heaven, cherishing the Earth, and loving others," which overall is her lifelong motto.

Once the magistrate of Taiwan's Taoyuan County, she reminded the attending mayors that the meaning of "health" covers not only providing city dwellers with healthcare services but also rendering visible to them a government that is "efficient and full of visions, prospects, and love."

She also gave credit to Taipei Mayor Ma Ying-jeou for boosting the international competitiveness of Taipei City, citing the fact that Taipei was honored as "Intelligent Community of the Year 2006" by the Intelligent Community Forum.

In conclusion, she hailed the Healthy City campaign, initiated by the World Health Organization in 1984 and echoed by more than 4,000 cities around the world, and hoped all the world citizens build their cities into ones that are "beautiful, healthy, friendly, and intelligent."
