Vice President Lu Encourages Cancer Patients
2006-08-29

Vice President Annette Lu attended the 10th annual meeting of the association of Taiwan's support groups for breast cancer patients on August 29. Once a thyroid cancer patient thirty years ago, she encouraged the meeting attendees to lead a life of wisdom and beauty.

"Being friends with cancer allows us to explore the value of life," she said, recalling her experience in living with cancer thirty years ago. "There was a moment that I felt betrayed by God," she said, "but then I realized that every one of us is born with cancer cells, which attack our organism when we are frail."

"Cancer cells are like villains in our society," she said in a figurative expression, adding that "when the legal system is stable and the ethical norms are strengthened, any social disorder will be restored back into order."

In conclusion, she encouraged all the patients to develop their wisdom and confidence, which, according to her, is the fountain of true happiness.
