Speaking at the opening of the 2006 Taipei International Invention Show and Technomart on August 31, President Chen Shui-bian said that Taiwan's industries need to closely connect to the world in technology innovation and research.
He said Taiwan welcomes multinational corporations to set up in Taiwan their strongholds for research and development, adding that their human resources, technology, and management will help strengthen the capacity of Taiwan's industries.
On the other hand, he encouraged local businesses to enhance technological innovation and use Taiwan as a research and development center to support their overseas production, in order to increase their international competitiveness.
In conclusion, the president welcomed all the participants to the event, which was organized by the agencies under the Executive Yuan.
