President Chen Shui-bian attended the opening ceremony of a support center for children in Penghu on September 16th. In his remarks, President Chen said that the support center for children launched by the Taiwan Fund for Children and Families, which takes 17 years to complete, is an important landmark for Penghu's development. In the future, the center would provide services on education, medical treatment and consultation to the people in need.
President Chen said that Penghu, as an island county, has long been lagging behind in social welfare and transportation services. But with the efforts of the government, now the National Penghu University was set up and a new ferry is about to launch. All of these endeavors will contribute to Penghu's economic development.
