On September 27, President Chen Shui-bian received about 50 overseas Taiwanese experts and scholars who attended the "2006 Biennial ROC-USA Business Conference and The Modern Engineering & Technology Seminar 2006". In the reception, President Chen expressed his appreciation for their contribution to Taiwan's technological and industrial development.
For the past 40 years, President Chen said, "The Modern Engineering & Technology Seminar" has introduced state-of-the-art knowledge to different engineering sectors in the process of Taiwan's economic development. The expertise shared by the participants has upgraded Taiwan's technology and laid a solid foundation for its industry.
President Chen added that overseas Taiwanese scholars' contribution represented their professional dedication and their love for Taiwan, which are the force behind Taiwan's improvement.
President Chen said that to ensure Taiwan's competitive edge, the government will endeavor to create a technology-friendly environment.
