President Chen Shui-bian addressed the opening ceremony of the 2006 Taiwan Design Expo on September 30. In the speech, President Chen pointed out that this year, Taiwan's products have won 102 honors in 4 major international design competitions, with 6 of them being the first prizes. This achievement has come as a result of the efforts of Taiwan's design industry and the government, he added.
President Chen said that the idea of LOHAS--Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability--has been growing popular worldwide. The essences of LOHAS, loving the nature and living a healthy life, have been encapsulated in the Taiwan Design Expo.
Moreover, President Chen said, the expo is expected to raise people's aesthetics consciousness and help secure a high-quality and healthy lifestyle for the citizens of Taiwan.
