In addition, the President appreciated Japan for its friendly policy of granting visa-free entry to the Taiwanese tourists, voting for Taiwan's bid to join the WHA and facilitating the Democratic Pacific Union to hold its regional forum in Tokyo. The Union was founded by Vice President Annette Lu.

Also present at the meeting were Vice President Lu, Vice Foreign Minister Chang Siao-yue and Deputy Secretary-General to the President Liu Shyh-fang.
