Vice President Annette Lu expressed her utmost gratitude to George Azzi, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of The Gambia, for his long trip to Taiwan when she met with the delegation from The Gambia on October 9.
Vice President Lu said that The Gambia has made a tremendous progress under the leadership of President Jemmeh since 2001, and she believed that The Gambia's political reform would serve as a model for other African nations.
In the meeting, Vice President Lu shared her idea of 3E education--English, Electronic and Earth--which, she said, is the key to a country's development. She added that in the face of globalization, everyone has to learn new technology and imbue the ideas of environmental protection into daily life.
Vice President Lu maintained that educating a woman is no less than educating a family because of the very important role she plays in the family. Therefore, providing education for women is a best investment for a country's future development. President Jemmeh is admirable for her being able to put this idea into practice, and this would contribute to The Gambia's development, the Vice President said.
Vice President Lu also wished her guests a pleasant time during their first visit to Taiwan.
Netty Baldeh, member of the National Assembly of The Gambia, Mawdo Juwara, Gambian ambassador to Taiwan, and Taiwan's Vice Foreign Minister Chang Siao-yue were also present at the meeting.
