President Chen Attends the 2006 National Day Celebrations

President Chen Shui-bian attended the 2006 National Day celebrations of the Republic of China (Taiwan) on October 10 and addressed the nation. In the speech, President Chen said that Taiwan is a liberal and democratic country that any kind of opinions should be respected and protected as stipulated in the constitution.

However, President Chen said that while expressing different views on national identification, people should not ignore the fact that all Taiwanese share the same destiny and Taiwan cannot afford splitting up.

President Chen said that facing the constantly changing circumstances, the Taiwanese people must unite together to meet the challenges. At the end of the speech, President Chen led the attendees to hail "Go, Go, Taiwan!"
