President Chen Shui-bian signed a joint communiqué with President Manuel Zelaya Rosales of Honduras before sending him off with full military honors on October 12. In the communiqué, both countries vowed to strengthen the two-way communication and cooperation. They also called on other countries all over the world to safeguard the right of self-determination, respect the sovereignty of every country and solve international disputes in a peaceful way.
Before the signing ceremony, the two heads of state held a talk and exchanged views on issues of mutual concern. President Chen appreciated President Zelaya for attending the ROC National Day Celebrations and invited him to visit Taiwan again when the Taiwan High Speed Rail begins operations before the end of this year.
