President Chen Signs Joint Communique with President of El Salvador

On October 20, President Chen Shui-bian held a talk with Elías Antonio Saca, President of the Republic of El Salvador, and signed a joint communiqué with him afterwards. As stated in the joint communiqué, the two heads of state exchanged opinions over bilateral relations, international situation and issues of mutual concern. Both presidents emphasized their strong desire to boost social and economic cooperation plans and their determination to uphold democracy, maintain world peace and respect human rights.    

President Chen expressed his appreciation for President Saca's great support of cooperative affairs between the two countries. Meanwhile, he expected the two sides to sign a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and to go further into detailed discussion on the construction of the Taiwan Park in El Salvador soon. President Chen also confirmed the endeavor of the ambassadors from the two nations to promote friendship between Taiwan and El Salvador. 

President Saca showed his deep gratitude for the Taiwan government's courteous reception and hospitality, especially for arranging intensive visits to south Taiwan. He was very delighted at the talks with President Chen and entrepreneur leaders, for the meetings would help strengthen the friendship between the two nations.

President Chen also gladly accepted President Saca's invitation to visit El Salvador and said he would love to pay a visit there in the first half of next year.
