After the mid-term elections for the U.S. Congress, President Chen Shui-bian on November 9 telephoned Reps. Tom Lantos, Dana Rohrabacher, Steve Chabot, and Robert Wexler, and Sen. Sherrod Brown, congratulating them on their election victory and expressing appreciation for their longstanding support for Taiwan.
President Chen conversed with the congresspersons and senator each about half an hour, and congratulated them on winning the support and recognition of their electorate. He also expressed his highest respect and gratitude for their speaking out for Taiwan at the U.S. Congress.
In response, the congresspersons expressed their gratitude for President Chen's personal congratulations, and reiterated their unwavering support for Taiwan. They assured the President that they will continue to work together to strengthen the cooperation between Taiwan and the United States, so as to ensure the greatest welfare of the two peoples.
